The Analog Front End
pH electrodes are high-impedance voltage sources. The glass membrane that makes pH measurement possible also means the signal is extremely fragile — electrode impedances typically sit in the hundreds of megaohms to gigaohm range. Most consumer pH meters cut corners here. We don't.
Our front end uses full electrical isolation with an input impedance exceeding 10 GΩ — high enough to properly interface with laboratory-grade electrodes without signal degradation. This allows us to support double-junction, silver nitrate reference probes — the type used in professional and scientific applications.
The result is accurate, stable pH readings that don't drift or suffer from noise — even in electrically noisy environments with pumps, solenoids, and other equipment running on the same circuits.

How It Works
Calculate ΔpH between current reading and setpoint
Larger deviation = larger dose. Small deviation = micro-dose. Approaching target = hold.

Proportional Dosing Logic
Most pH dosers operate on fixed-dose logic: if pH deviates from target, dump X millilitres. Wait. Repeat. This works, but it's crude — you overshoot, undershoot, oscillate around your setpoint.
Our system uses subtractive proportional logic. The dose volume scales with the deviation from target. Far from setpoint? Larger dose. Close to setpoint? Micro-dose. At setpoint? Hold.
The algorithm also estimates remaining reservoir volume based on cumulative dosing history, adjusting its calculations as your water level drops. Pair with our optional water level sensor for exact volume tracking.

Printed in PLA Bioplastic
The enclosure is 3D printed in Bambu Lab PLA Pure — a five-ingredient bioplastic made from plant starch, with no plasticiser of any kind. No phthalates, and none of the polyethylene glycol or citrate esters that some PLA compounds use. Independent SGS testing of printed samples under EU Regulation 10/2011 measured overall migration in all four food simulants and found none detectable in any of them, including 3% acetic acid held at 70°C.
Those reports cover the material we print in rather than certifying this finished part, and we don't market our enclosures as food-safe — printed parts have layer lines, which is a hygiene question no chemistry can answer.
